‘Somewhere Back of the Sun’ is a collection of scenes from the last year as I transitioned from my time in Baltimore to my childhood home, and eventually to Philadelphia, in the context of the global pandemic. The piece features dreams of childhood, the beauty of nature, and the reuniting with loved ones. Although this piece wrestles with an array of emotions, I wanted to write something that was ultimately optimistic and focused on the moments that have kept me afloat during this last year. The writing of this piece was itself one of the ways that allowed me to grapple with these difficult times, and try to work though the mixture of emotions that surfaced along the way.
