Music and movement have been intertwined for centuries, one inspiring the other. The Acro Piano Duet utilizes 'The Big Piano,' as seen in the Tom Hanks' movie 'Big,' and explores what sounds and movements are possible when an acrobat uses the instrument. This quasi-improvised piece has the acrobat initiate the musical material, and the pianist incorporates it into their playing. While the piece has two clear sections, the first being gentle and flowing, and the second light and humorous, this dialogue between the players remains constant throughout the entire work. Special thanks to Ensemble Arts Philly for facilitating the Orchestra After Five pre-concert series, the occasion for which this piece was written.
